French Official Language/Description

Objective
  • To improve some or all of your French language skills (comprehension, speaking, writing) with the goal of taking a Public Service official language exam at a higher level
Classes
  • Private instruction, day or evening
  • Semi-private with 2 or 3 students, day or evening (private or semi- private courses are offered either at Conversa or at your work place)
  • Small group course with 4-6 students, evenings
Instruction

It is a combination of Conversa’s communicative approach and program commonly used for Public Service official language instruction.

Assessment

In order to determine a student's level, we offer an assessment (free of charge). Your oral proficiency is evaluated by phone in the form of a 10 to15 minute conversation. To evaluate your writing and reading abilities, we provide you with two assignments to complete on your own, within a specific period of time, and return to Conversa. If you do not know your level in any of these categories and wish to be evaluated, please provide your phone number and suggest a time for us to contact you.

Registration process
  1. Complete the registration form.
  2. Upon receipt of your registration, Conversa will contact you to conduct an assessment (as described above).<
  3. Based on your level and goals, and rates listed below, Conversa will estimate the number of hours of instruction required to reach your goal and submit a proposal.
  4. Instruction can begin as soon as your department approves.
  5. If you are practicing and/or improving your French Official Language skills on your own initiative and expense, you can register for in the next appropriate level French that we will be offering.
